On December 3, 1976, an assassination attempt was made on Bob Marley's life ... The incident occured two days before the "Smile Jamaica" free concert, that Bob agreed to play, in the hopes of calming tensions between Jamaica’s rivaling political parties ... While Marley and The Wailers were rehearsing at 56 Hope Road, unnamed gunmen shot and wounded Rita Marley, Don Taylor, and Bob, who was grazed in the chest by a ricocheted bullet that ended up in his elbow ...

No one was killed in the attempt ...

Despite all that, Marley performed as planned ... This incident became his inspiration for the song  "Ambush In The Night” ...
