She Had Never Seen The Ocean ... By Jafar Alam

This girl once told me
She had never seen the ocean
Has never smelled the salt
That wakes her inside
Never heard the sound of waves echoing
From the inside of her body
She had never seen the ocean ...
I thought to myself ...
Where does she let her memories sleep ?
If she drowns
Who would come and find her ? ©
She had never seen the ocean
Has never smelled the salt
That wakes her inside
Never heard the sound of waves echoing
From the inside of her body
She had never seen the ocean ...
I thought to myself ...
Where does she let her memories sleep ?
If she drowns
Who would come and find her ? ©

Lorraine Hansberry ...
There is always something left to love ...
And if you ain't learned that ...
And if you ain't learned that ...
You ain't learned nothing ...
Hafiz ...
I wish I could show you, when you are lonely or in darkness ...
The astonishing light of your own being ...
The astonishing light of your own being ...

Audre Lorde ...
Looking inward and outward at once ...
Before and after ...
Seeking a now that can breed futures ...
Like bread in our children's mouths ...
So their dreams will not reflect the death of ours ...

Like bread in our children's mouths ...

Look at the sky: That is for you ... Look at each person's face as you pass on the street: Those faces are for you ...
And the street itself, and the ground under the street, and the ball of fire underneath the ground: All these things are for you ...
They are as much for you as they are for other people ...
Remember this when you wake up in the morning and think you have nothing

A Litany For Survival ... By Audre Lorde (The Black Unicorn)
For those of us who live at the shoreline
Standing upon the constant edges of decision
Crucial and alone
For those of us who cannot indulge
the passing dreams of choice
Who love in doorways coming and going
In the hours between dawns
Looking inward and outward
At once before and after
Seeking a now that can breed
Futures
Like bread in our children's mouths
So their dreams will not reflect
The death of ours
For those of us
Who were imprinted with fear
Like a faint line in the center of our foreheads
Learning to be afraid with our mother's milk
For by this weapon
This illusion of some safety to be found
The heavy-footed hoped to silence us
For all of us
This instant and this triumph
We were never meant to survive
And when the sun rises we are afraid
It might not remain
When the sun sets we are afraid
It might not rise in the morning
When our stomachs are full we are afraid
Of indigestion
When our stomachs are empty we are afraid
We may never eat again
When we are loved we are afraid
Love will vanish
When we are alone we are afraid
Love will never return
And when we speak we are afraid
Our words will not be heard
Nor welcomed
But when we are silent
We are still afraid
So it is better to speak
Remembering
We were never meant to survive

Everybody's born with some different thing at the core of their existence ... And that thing, whatever it is, becomes like a heat source that runs each person from the inside ... I have one too, of course ... Like everybody else ... But sometimes it gets out of hand ... It swells or shrinks inside me, and it shakes me up ... What I'd really like to do is find a way to communicate that feeling to another person ...

Adrians Kiss ... By Jafar Alam
Adrian was only 6 years oldWhen his mothers heart stopped beating
He cried
Shook her
And screamed her name
His mouth was full of
Heartbreaking words
When nothing was able
To revive his mom
He kissed her forehead
Later, when the nurse cleaned her body
Her forehead had a small
Wet circle
She washed her face
Carefully around
Adrians kiss (c)
True Story ...
An 8 year old came into my store today and said somethin like:
"No one can touch the sky ... You can touch air, but not the sky" ...
I was like "WORD" ...
"No one can touch the sky ... You can touch air, but not the sky" ...
I was like "WORD" ...

Her Tears ... by Jafar Alam
Caged Dove ... by Jafar Alam
In The Arms Of Midnight ... By Jafar Alam

Chocolate girl
Your hair looks
Un-beweaveable
Don't give up on tomorrow
It's already praisin'
Today
You aint a regular
Earth dweller
Sweet heart
There's only one caste system ...
That's the human race
And Karma
She's a trip
She's got their names
In her book
You deserve a love
That makes you a priority
Not an option hun
Don't run away from your problems
Lest you start avoiding mirrors
Chocolate girl
You're the realist fairytale
Don't try explaining yourself
To them
How you explain sunshine
To a blind man?
You are the joy of the world
Yeeeeup!
So act like it
Gwan!
Gwan!
Don't be some fool
Baby mama
Boilin' milk over a stove
With lost dreams
These boys
These days
They be fallin' in love
Without love
Don't be so consumed
With the world around you
That you neglect the world
Within you
Start your journey
If they ask for you
Tell em
They can find you
Waiting in the dimple of a moon
In the arms of midnight
Dancing
To the whistle
Of the wind (c)

I'm Running For School Board Trustee ...
MILTON CANADIAN CHAMPION - Milton’s latest school board trustee candidate says his experience working as a volunteer in elementary schools has given him a good understanding of where improvements can be made.
Jafar Alam has entered the race to represent Wards 1,6,7 and 8 as a Milton Halton District School Board trustee.
The self-described “busy body” runs a health food store and a martial arts school in Richmond Hill. He has taught mixed martial arts to children and adults for more than a decade. He also published his first collection of poetry in March of this year.
In 2007, Alam began volunteering at Scarborough-area schools, leading poetry and writing workshops.
He said more literacy programs in elementary and middle schools is something he would like to see incorporated in school curriculum.
“I’ve seen a decline (in literacy rates) during the workshops.”
“I’m still young and feel I have a lot to contribute. I’ve seen a lot to improve,” the 27-year-old said, pointing to better nutritional programs and new physical education programs.

But when I ask people to live for the sake of God
I can’t find anyone ...

Amazing ...
Have they never journeyed about the earth, letting their hearts gain wisdom, and causing their ears to hear? Indeed, it is not their eyes that become blind, but blind become their hearts that are in the chests

If they burn a book have no worries ... The book will feel NO pain so neither should you ... True destruction of the Quran cannot be done with fire ... It is destroyed when we fail to remember and practice its lessons in our daily lives ... If this occurs, then it is ANOTHER fire that you should truly be concerned about ...

Some Points From My Readings ...
- You should develop the ability to reason accurately and independently rather than accepting ideas based solely on authority or tradition ...
- Our egos cause us to cherish opinions, judge others and rationalize our beliefs ... Perennialists ask “Would you rather be right or be happy?” ...
- We should exercise humility .... Not because others find it attractive (although they do) ... But because, if we are honest with ourselves, we have much to be humble about ...
- We should practice forgiveness ... When we forgive others, we find that others forgive us ... And that we forgive ourselves ...
- Moral development comes from strengthening our impulse control, prioritizing personal relationships and fostering social responsibility ...

Ibn al Qayyim al Jawziyyah ...
The love of the Beloved must be unconditionally returned ...
If you claim love, yet oppose the Beloved, then your love is but a pretense ...
You love the enemies of your Beloved, and still seek love in return ...
You fight the beloved of your Beloved ...
Is this love or the following of Satan ???
True devotion is nothing but total submission of body and soul to One Love ...
We have seen humans claim to submit, yet their loyalties are many ...
They put their trust here, and their hope there ...
And their love is without consequence ...
